The Outdoor Program

Wintersports

Winter weather is great weather for outdoor adventure, and January and February are some of the most exciting and busy months in the E&H Outdoor Program.

Be sure to join in the annual Cold Dip every January and take an invigorating swim in Whitetop Creek. Winter creek dipping is a fun and healthy way to beat the winter blues.

If there is snow in the high country, the Program loads up the cross-country skis for some back country touring on the trails on and around Whitetop and Mt. Rogers, the two tallest peaks in Virginia. For down hill and snowboarding, Emory’s campus is situated approximately an hour from the resorts in Banner Elk, North Carolina and Winterplace in Virginia.

No snow? Come with us caving, winter paddling, hiking or on a backpacking trip. The mountains surrounding Emory & Henry are just as beautiful and exciting in winter as they are in the spring and fall.
